The Dance Album
Blending the classic funk sounds of James Brown, Sly Stone and George Clinton with electronic music and drum machines, 'the godfather of hip-hop' Afrika Bambaattaa has been one of the most influential and important figures in popular music for the last twenty years. 'Planet Rock', which famously combined hip-hop beats with a sample from Kraftwerk's 'Trans-Europe Express', was a hit for Afrika Bambaataa in 1982. This truly groundbreaking hit single was to sow the seeds for the house, techno and electronica movements which followed in its wake. 'The Dance Album' is a fascinating dance- oriented collection of Bambaataa's variations and re-mixes on the 'Planet Rock' theme made between 1982 and 1992. Each of the album's twelve tracks is a different and entirely unique version of 'Planet Rock'. Three of them feature guest appearances from Time Zone, Hydraulic Funkahaulics and M.C. G.L.O.B.E., who have all collaborated with Afrika Bambaataa over the years.
