Description
This collaboration came about from Akomplice co-founder Patrick Liberty's friendship with the legendary photographer Ricky Powell and famed artist David Flores. Patrick had a vision to take a few of Ricky Powell's iconic photos and then have David Flores create original pieces from them. To bring two legendary creatives together from different fields, and from the West and East coast, is not always the easy of tasks. Sh*t like this just doesn't happen every day.

David Flores:
David Flores started his work at Shorty's Skateboards as a freelance illustrator. He also contributed to many other skateboarding companies such as Real, Stereo, Thunder, Doh Doh, BlackMagic, Anti Hero, Powell Peralta, Spitfire Wheels, Lucky Bearings and Deluxe Distribution. In 2000, Flores began to design and produce his own limited edition vinyl toys, clothing and paintings with the use of a new style. He also had the Kidrobot toy, Dunny, inducted into the MOMA (Museum of Modern Art) NYC. Flores has participated in collaborations with photographer Phil Stern, artist Shepard Fairey, Disney, Stussy, a rendition of Speedy Gonzales with Warner Brothers, Fabrick with Medicom Toy and The Simpsons limited edition sneakers with Vans. Flores is most recently acclaimed for his street murals seen in all areas of the world.

RICKY POWELL:
Born and raised in New York City, Ricky Powell is a legendary photographer who specializes in the environmental portrait. Powell initailly rose to fame because of his relationship with the Beastie Boys, and was known as the 4th Beastie Boy. Throughout his career, Ricky Powell captured photographs of actors, musicians, performers and artists that inspired him, including Run DMC, Public Enemy, Rakim, Slick Rick, Eazy E, Method Man, LL Cool J, Fab 5 Freddy, Steven Tyler, Nina Hagen, John Bloodclot, John Lee Hooker, LeRoy Neiman, Martha Graham, Elizabeth Taylor, Calvin Klein, Barbara Walters, Grace Jones, Francis Ford Coppola, Sofia Coppola, Cindy Crawford, Dondi, Doze Green, Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol, as well as everyday people Powell spotted on the street. Ricky also has works shown in the Smithsonian.

Each shirt is tagged with a limited hangtag postcard showcasing the original photo used by David Flores for the illustrations printed on the shirt.
