Description
"Bernard Purdie is a master musician who brings everything he can to his performance. I grew to depend on him and really treasure the work we did together."
-Roberta Flack

Bernard Purdie is one of the most well-known drummers of all time, in all genres of music and probably the most recorded in history. From his early days as a session player to being Aretha Franklin's musical director, being an over-dub drummer for The Beatles, recording albums with King Curtis, Steely Dan, Cat Stevens, Joe Cocker, Herbie Hancok, Hall & Oates, Quincy Jones, The Last Poets, Roberta Flack, and James Brown, to name a few. "The Hit Maker" is a staple in music!

In 1967 he entered a studio with several friends to cut his first solo album, Soul Drums, which was released on Date, a new subsidiary of Columbia Records. More recently he was drummer of the 2009 Broadway revival of Hair and apppeared on the associated Broadway cast recording.

Soul Drums has become one of the most sought after drum LPs amongst vinyl collectors. With its heavy reverb psychedelic funk sound, this record will blow lids! Available for the first time on CD with eight bonus tracks! These songs are rumored to be the follow-up LP, Alexander's Rag Time Band, which has been shelved since recording. The re-issue for Soul Drums will also include linear notes from a recent interview with Bernard and unpublished photos from the original album cover sessions by Sandy Speiser.

"As a drummer, music fan, beat maker and beat collector, of course I have to give it up for Mr. Purdie. The man is responsible for Aretha's and many others' classic swinging break beats."
-Mike D (Beastie Boys)
