Product Details
When Egon and Cut Chemist made their series of Gulf Coast runs in 2000 and 2001, blasting Dante Carfagna's Home Of The Schlitz tape in between Eddie 3 Way's One Stop in New Orleans and Milton Smith's record stores/barber shop in Mobile, Alabama, the duo were searching more for the hard funk recently reissued on Tramp Records' 7-inch single featuring Skin Williams & The Soulfadelics. Luckily, the two discovered other, more soulful records that Smith released on his Mil-Smi, Von's and Burning Bush imprints. Being the virtuous record collectors they are, they didn't buy Smith's entire stash, and, in the past five years a certain record by Ellis and Cephas (adorned with a most deceiving sleeve) has come to light and has been exchanging hands for worth sums, from the United States to Japan. Ellis and Cephas's two modern soul/disco tunes will finally see release on the next Soul-Cal 12-inch Giant Single - "I'm Gonna Miss You Girl" and "Heaven." The latter only has a home in the most ardent of modern soul collectorsboxes and sells for over $500 when it surfaces, which is hardly ever. And though Milton Smith, upon hearing "Heaven" in 2001 for the first time in over twenty years remarked, "Oh, they always did want to sound like the Bee Gees" (or something like that), you'll be surprised just how funky it is. By the way, it's not gospel. As Cephas wails in his nasal tone - "As Long As There is Hatred/Our Love Is Incomplete." Truer words have never been spoken - by the Bee Gees, or otherwise.
