12" Vinyl Single Record
Super Bro's opening salvo in the Joey Beats wars is here. We've been chasing one of our favorite beat-makers for two years to get him into our camp and we are not disappointed with the result. Joey's claim to fame is that as sole producer of the duo Non-Prophets with Sage Francis. Our interest in him derives from his Reverse Discourse CD, a 60 minute mix of beats written for MCs, which we listened to nearly daily for over a year. It clearly showed us that, Shadow and RJD2 watch out, there's a new sheriff in town. Of course Joey wasn't sitting around waiting for us to find him, he has a recent solo effort titled Indie Rock Blues. It's an uninterrupted collage of remixes, a kind of danceable melancholia for the depressed. CunninLynguists are a duo who intend on recapturing the soul in southern hip-hop. Deacon The Villain and Kno follow want to remind the world that politics, death, racism, relationships, religion and struggle are just as relevant to life below the Mason-Dixon as anywhere else. Blak aka Blak Lungz (don't you dare say "thought") is the front man for the band One Drop. Originally from Gainesville via Jamaica, Blak with crew now reside in Orlando. One Drop is hands down one of the most road tested bands in the country. Blak is now taking steps to traditional styled hip hop teaming up with Joey Beats, who he appeared with on the first Non-Prophets 12". Also included are two bonus instrumental joints.
