Product Details
After several funk compilations on Perfect Toy Records like "Creative Musicians" vol. 1 & 2 and the first part of Tobias Kirmayer's "Movements" series, the Munich based label is dropping the second part of this monster collection of ultra rare 45 singles! Again, Tobias Kirmayer has not made this compilation to please the hardcore collectors of funk 45s, rather it's for all the regular music buyers who love the soul sound but do not have the time or ambition for diggin' the crates for the original format. For the "Movements" series, the most important thing is the quality of the music, even more than the single factor of rarity. And that's why volume 1 was so successful.
Tobias Kirmayer began collecting records in the early 1990s. Influenced by his brother's excellent music tastes, he too quickly became a vinyl junky. At first only interested in funk and hip hop, Tobias's musical interests developed over the years, adding afro, Latin/Brasilian, and funky breaks and beats to his pallet. In 2000, he became a professional DJ. In mid-2003, Tobias founded Tramp Records, which has since released 13 45 rpm singles - reissues alongside new funk recordings by bands out of Munich. In late 2005 he also started making music on his own and has released since two 12" singles. Beside that Tobias started a two weekly radio show in March 2006 which focuses on rare funk and raw soul. Tobias is still doing his club night 'Soul Popcorn'. And together with Jerker Kluge from Munich based jazz band Hipnosis, he is running the 'Jazz Kombinat' club night.
Tobias Kirmayer: "I am glad to be a part of the current rare funk movement whose contributors are putting together all their knowledge, passion and love to ensure that the so-called deep funk scene thrives in a modern world of mp3s and low quality compressed soundfiles only suitable for iPods."
